Iran makes new gas proposal to Russia

TEHRAN, Nov. 25 (MNA) – Making an offer to Russia's Gazprom gas giant, Iran has called for the company’s participation in new natural gas storage projects in the country.

The new round of talks between Iran and Russia was held by Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh and the Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak on the sidelines of the third summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Tehran.

On the basis of the conducted talks, Iran has offered a proposal to Russia’s Gazprom Company for taking part in Iran’s new natural gas storage projects.

Bijan Zanganeh deemed Russia as one of Iran’s oil and gas industry partners during the post sanction era; “we have invited Russian companies to invest in underground natural gas storage projects,” he noted.

“It was agreed that Gazprom will have talks with Iran on cooperation in various gas fields,” said Zanganeh asserting “Iran is ready to collaborate with Russian companies for implementation of the projects.”

So far, Iran has constructed two massive underground natural gas storage tanks in Qom and Khorasan Razavi provinces in collaboration with the National Iranian Oil Company and the National Gas Company.

On the other hand, since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year, Iran’s gas production and storage capacities have increased to a significant degree setting a new record in sour gas storage.

So far this year, a total of 900 million cubic meters of gas have been stored in underground storage tanks indicating about 106 per cent growth compared with the same period last year.
